The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art

The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art is a book by Barb Rosenstock and it is illustrated by Mary Grandpre. This book is about a young boy who was given a paintbox by his aunt and claims he can hear colors. One of the connections I can make to this story is text to text connection. This is because I once read a book on Picasso, Picasso made abstract art as well and the book was about his life and how different he was from others. Another connection I can make to this story is text to media. Abstract art is all over social media because people seem to like abstract art.

After the Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again

After the Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again by Dan Santat is a wonderful book about not giving up. In the book, Humpty Dumpty was afraid of heights after his great fall. He could not enjoy anything because of his fear. In the end, he learned to face his fears head-on and he hatched to become a bird and fly high. A connection I can make is text to self. In my life there have been many times where I feel like giving up but, now I know that giving up is not an option. Another connection I can make is text to media. Online there are many people who are always preaching about not giving up and staying determined. The last connection I can make is text to text. I once read a book about not giving up and how to push through difficult situations.

There

There by Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick is a children’s book about growing up. This book is about a young child who is questioning what will happen when they grow up. In this book, the young child is asking questions on growing up such as will there be rainbows or dragons and can she bring her stuffed animals there? One connection I can make with this book is text to self. When I was younger, I used to ask the same questions about growing up, full of wonder and curiosity. Another connection I can make is text to world. In the world right now, a lot of kids are growing up and asking the same questions. The last connection I can make is text to media. On social media, I have seen many instances of kids asking about growing up.

Wangari’s Trees of Peace: A True Story from Africa

Wangari’s Trees of Peace: A True Story from Africa by Jeanette Winter is a wonderful book about changing history and making the world a better place. This first shows when Wangari and her partners’ plant trees to show that women aren’t weak and can do things that males can do as well. One of the connections I had with this book is a text to world connection because the environment and global warming is a problem we are facing right now. One more connection I had was a text to media. This was because when she went home she saw that there were no trees left because people were cutting them down. I was watching the new and in the news, people were cutting down trees.

The Fantastic Undersea: Life of Jacques Cousteau

The Fantastic Undersea: Life of Jacques Cousteau by Dan Yaccarina is a wonderful book about a person named Jacques who loved the sea and wanted to make movies underwater and share the wonderful things about the ocean with others. I can connect to this book to the world because when Jacques returned to one of his diving spots it was very polluted, and pollution is a big problem we are facing right now. Another connection I can make to this book is to myself. I used to live in Florida and take swimming classes all the time, also I have always loved water because I grew up surrounding beaches and pools. The last connection I can make to this book is to a magazine. In the national geographic magazine, I have read many things about water and the ocean.

Enemy Pie Connections

Enemy Pie by Derek Munson is a wonderful children’s book about a boy who has made an enemy and he wished to get rid of him. His dad made an enemy pie for his enemy and when he did, he told him that to make his enemy eat this pie, you’ll have to play with him a day. However, when the two boys played with each other they became close friends. When he invited his enemy for dinner, his dad came out with the pie. The story ends with the two boys and the dad eating the pie because, the pie was a normal pie and the dad’s plan was to make the two of them friends. I can make various connections this story. The first one will be to myself. I have had a lot of people that I have not liked at first but then we became friends and thats okay. Another connection I can make is to media. A lot of people have enemies online, especially on social media. The last connection I can make is to world. Right now prime minister Narendra Modi and Rahul “pappu” Gandhi are going head to head in an election war in India.

Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi

“Sir Cumference and The Dragon of Pi” is a math picture book written by Cindy Neuschwander and illustrated by Wayne Geehan. One day, Sir Cumference was eating something, and his stomach started hurting a lot. He told his son to get the doctor, and that his stomach felt like it was on fire. So his son, Radius went to the doctor, but couldn’t find him, so he got a potion called fire belly instead. He gave it to his dad, but his dad became a dragon, so Radius went to try to find a cure. Meanwhile, the soldiers want to plan to hunt down the dragon at morning the next day. Radius found a potion with a poem (the answer was Pi, but he didn’t know that yet), and showed it to his mom. After a while, they find out that the answer is Pi, and they save their dad. I like this story because it is a fun way to learn things about math. I would recommend this book for kids ages 8-12 because they can learn about math and not get bored.

Kindness #5

Last night when my family went shopping, there was a woman standing outside the store holding a sing that stated she needed money for food and rent since she had 4 children. I told my mom and we decided to buy some cupcakes for her. after we gave them to her she smiled and said “god bless you”. She looked very thankful. This made me feel good that I could help feed 4 children.

Ivan: The Remarkable True Tale of the Shopping Mall Gorilla

Ivan: The Remarkable True Tale of the Shopping Mall Gorilla is a wonderful story written by Katherine Applegate and illustrated by G. Brian. The book is about a gorilla who was taken from his home in the jungle by poachers and sold to a family who owned a shopping mall. At this home he was named Ivan and was treated as a human child until he grew too big to live in the house. Ivan was transferred to a metal cage in the shopping mall and lived there alone for 27 years until people started to protest so much that Ivan had to be released. I think this is a good book for kids who are passionate about animals
